Much has been written and published about the Four-Day workweek that the SF-based Bolt made permanent recently. It is worth a read and a deep dive if it can be adopted proactively at your company?

As a relatively new employee at Bolt, I wanted to share my thoughts on its short-term impact on my life.

I didn’t join Bolt because of this policy (at the time it was in a trial period), but I have quickly embraced it — mainly as it affords me the opportunity to be a better parent, and being an active parent in my children’s lives is one of my top priorities.

The Four Day week has afforded me the following Parenting benefits - I’m very grateful!

  1. Parent projects on Friday — parenting is not a 9 to 5 or a four-day only job; it is really a second-you-wake-up to the second-you-go-to sleep job. But part of trying to be a great parent with a busy professional schedule is a time to plan well into the future, coordinate your kid activities and schedules, plot out who is doing what and when in your household, and even ask “why” are we doing something (extra soccer practice, again?!). With Friday’s now work meetings free, I can focus on the important job of planning my parenting life.
  2. Guaranteed pick-up and drop off kids Friday at school — this seemingly routine activity is anything but routine when there…
